EZClean ARTISTS
BRUSH
Bob Brown
A EZClean brush is only one-piece of molded plastic,
yet it has the delicate feel of a fine bristled brush. One swipe of an old rag
will clean it, but it is durable, and inexpensive to manufacture. Why waste time
cleaning a paint loaded bristle brush when you could be painting your
masterpiece.

EZBrush will appeal to artists because they change
paint colors often and it is so easy to clean. For a child it is easier to keep
the brush (and the child) clean, not to mention its low cost. Bristle bushes
must be discarded when bristles become loaded with dried paint. This problem
does not exist with EZBrush because it has no bristles.
If an artist wants to produce brush strokes in his
paintings, a variety of serration designs can be molded into the brush blade. A
wide range of stiffness can also be manufactured. Use limber brushes for
delicate jobs, or very stiff brushes can even replace pallet knives. Although
useful for artists, EZBrush can be made in many different sizes for all types of
painting projects.
Thermosetting polycarbonate (General Electric’s
Lexan) is a good choice for the plastic. It is a tough thermosetting plastic
that is rigid enough for the handles while still having a nice feel when thinned
to a knife-edge to simulate bristles. One-piece construction should hold
manufacturing cost to a minimum. My prototypes were shaped on a grinding wheel
since polycarbonate’s properties resemble metal in many respects. Because of
its high impact strength, Lexan is used in the manufacture of appliances, tools,
bullet-proof windows, etc.
