Bob
Brown is the pen name for Robert L. Brown. He
was born in Birmingham in 1926. Until recently
and except for two
years in the U. S. Navy during World War II, he
has lived in the three southern states of
Alabama, Georgia, and Tennessee. He did not
participate in any battles while in the Navy,
but did serve on a Landing Craft Infantry ship
in the Philippines. In 2000 while on his way
to Alaska in his camper he fell in love with
beautiful Montana. In a blink he postponed the
Alaskan trip to start construction on a new
home that commands a stunning view of Flathead
Lake and the Rocky Mountains.
The
GI Bill made it possible for him to graduate
from Auburn University as an Electrical
Engineer in 1950. He worked in Atlanta for
three years as Substation Design Engineer for
Georgia Power Company. In 1954 he moved to
Kingston Tennessee where he accepted a job in
Oak Ridge working for the Electrical
Engineering Department of Union Carbide. From
1957 until his retirement in 1988 he worked as
Research and Development Engineer for Fusion
Energy Research in the Oak Ridge National
Laboratory. On this assignment he worked on the
development of conventional and superconducting
magnets. He obtained five patents in magnet
research and three more patents for utility
devices useful around the home.
His
wife, Betty, died in 1992 of cancer after
forty-five years of marriage. They had two
children, David and Sandra.
In
1995 he found writing to be a rewarding pastime
for a retiree. One may write at anyplace, at
anytime, in any weather, and in any season.
After numerous short stories, in 2000 he authored the
historical novel Not
One Shred of Decency. Nathan's
Valley was published in 2003 and Bittersweet
Revenge was published in 2006. Several short stories and
some never before published inventions are on this
website (See menu below). The inventions are
free to anyone with no expectation of personal
gain.
